Euonymus 'Red Cascade'

Autumn colour for small space gardens

The Spindle tree is a fantastic shrub for autumn colour. A European native, it is happy growing in most garden soils, but prefers full sun for the best autumn leaf colour.  Vibrant red leaves provide a great accent in the autumn garden and are held by euonymus alongside winged berries or fruits in pink and orange.  Even after the red leaves have fallen, the Spindle rewards you with the strange bright berries, which last throughout the winter - or at least until the birds eat them all!  Read more »

Liquidambar styraciflua

Liquidambar is a beautiful, fast growing tree that is a must for lovers of autumn colour.  It flowers inconspicuously in May, but is an elegant tree.  Liquidambar really comes into its own in the autumn months when the leaves colour purple, then reds and yellows.  One of our favourite trees for autumn colour, Liquidambar styraciflua 'Worplesdon' would be happy in full sun in medium to large gardens. Virginia Creeper

Creeping climber with amazing autumn colour in vivid reds, pinks and oranges.  This popular plant, best known as Bostan Ivy or Virginia Creeper is very vigourous so if you are short on space why not try the less invasive variety -  Parthenocissus henryana.  This has delicate silver veining to the 5 lobed leaved and so it looks equally elegant in the spring as it does when the colours turn in autumn Read more »
